Academic Strategies Classes

Academic Strategies I and II (ACS 024 and ACS 125) are courses designed especially for Horizons Enhanced level students. Opportunity is provided for self-analysis and application of learning strategies to other courses. Strategies covered include: time management, organization, memory, listening, note taking, textbook reading, and writing. Self-advocacy and the use of appropriate accommodations (including the use of assistive technology) are also emphasized.

These sections are kept small to allow for individual attention. A hands-on approach is emphasized using guided practice to help students attain mastery of these highly structured strategies. The two-semester format helps students learn to adapt and generalize these strategies to the variety of courses they will undertake during their college careers.

ACS 024 is a pass/fail, non-credit course (N3), while ACS 125 is a college-level  elective for which students earn a grade and 3 credits toward degree completion.
