Is this the right major for me?

The Undeclared Program (#6000) is intended to help students clarify their educational goals. It is designed especially for students who are unsure about their major.

How long can I be in the Undeclared Program?

This is a one semester program. Students must select a major after completing 12 credits or one full time semester of study.

What type of support will I receive in the Undeclared Program?

Undeclared students will receive support and guidance from many sources:

  • The Counseling Office will provide information regarding the "Career Pathways and Majors Workshop" which you are required to attend. The counselors may also provide information on transfer options and career choices.
  • Professor P. Bernson, Coordinator of the Undeclared Program, will contact you regarding the program requirements and is available for assistance throughout the semester. She can connect you with a faculty advisor from the field of study you are most interested in. These faculty advisors supplement the information you receive from Counseling, as well as provide advisement for course selection and requirements in your newly declared major.
  • The Office of the Dean of Students will process your change of major form and will assign you to an appropriate faculty advisor.

What does a typical course schedule look like during this first semester?

Your coursework might include English Composition I, humanities and social science electives, and a technology or science course. You should also include a course in an area of interest or one to help determine your major. Developmental courses, such as writing skills, basic math or basic algebra may be required. The Testing Center will provide you with the necessary information.

Can I transfer into the Undeclared program?

Transfer students who have twelve or more credits are not be eligible for the Undeclared Program.

Will I be eligible for financial aid?

The Undeclared Program is a recognized program of study for receipt of financial aid. Therefore, students in this program may be eligible for financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information.

How will I eventually declare a major?

After attending the "Career Pathways and Majors Workshop" and meeting with either the Coordinator of the Undeclared Program or your faculty advisor, you should be able to select a major that reflects your interests and goals. Complete the change of major form at the Office of the Dean of Students and then meet with the assigned faculty advisor for course advisement. Remember - all change of major forms for the Undeclared program must be processed through this office.
