Bonnie MurphyBonnie Murphy is a full professor of Information Technologies and Chairperson of the Department of Information Technologies at County College of Morris (CCM). Professor Murphy is a graduate of CCM with a 30-year tenure at the Randolph campus. She began her CCM career as a laboratory assistant in the Secretarial Science Department. This department became the Department of Office Systems which Professor Murphy chaired for a period of five years. From 1994 through 1996, Professor Murphy served as Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence. As the field of new media evolved, the Department of Media was formed, and Professor Murphy served as its chair through 2002. At this time, the Departments of Media and Information Technology merged; Professor Murphy assumed the role of Chairperson of IT and continues in this capacity.

Throughout her career, Professor Murphy has been recognized for teaching excellence and has earned awards from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, Who’s Who, and the New Jersey Business Education Association. In addition, she has been cited for excellence in curriculum development and has been responsible for developing numerous degree and certificate programs. In support of these programs, Professor Murphy has written, received, and implemented several external funding grants. She was a pioneer in the area of online education and offered one of the first two fully online courses at CCM.

Professor Murphy is active professionally off campus as well as on. She has served in various official capacities for the Morris County Business Educators Association, the Community College Computer Consortium, the CCM Foundation, and other local and municipal groups. She has made many presentations ranging from time management to strategic planning to Web 2.0 technologies for corporations and at local, regional, state, and national meetings and conferences.

In addition to the associate in applied science degree that Professor Murphy earned at CCM, she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Montclair State University and has taken additional graduate courses at The Citadel, William Paterson University, and San Francisco State University.

Northwestern New Jersey is home for Professor Murphy and her husband who enjoy the successes of their two children—an elementary school teacher and social worker; traveling, especially to Mexico; and planting and enjoying daylilies.
