Academic NCWIT AllianceEvery voice counts. Make sure yours is heard with your impact through technology. At the Department of Information Technologies, we are proud to have a diverse faculty and student body. We are committed to supporting diversity of all kinds.

Faculty have received training for providing an inclusive learning environment in their classrooms through grants from the National Science Foundation funded Lighthouse for Computer Science project, which aims to increase diversity though faculty education.

National Center for Women and Information TechnologyWe are an Academic Alliance member of the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) and have become a partner in the NCWIT Learning Circle program, which is designed to increase the percentage of women and other under-represented groups in computing fields.

For over two decades, the IT department faculty has inspired high school women to pursue careers in technology through CCM’s annual Women Who Dare program, a full-day, on-campus experience full of interactive workshops.

Recently, faculty and students attended an AnitaB.org Local Meetup and Job Fair in New York City. AnitaB.org is a social enterprise that supports women in technical fields, as well as the organizations that employ them and the academic institutions training the next generation.

Our collaborative, team-based learning environment allows you to work with others to create solutions to real-world projects. All on-campus classes are taught in classrooms equipped with computers and industry standard software for every student, which permits hands-on, active learning environments for instruction and learning. Classrooms hold at most 20 students, allowing instructors to provide individual attention.

Other instructional tools you’ll experience in the classroom include 3D Printers, Virtual Reality equipment, Go Pros, video and camera equipment, microphones, headsets, game consoles and peripherals, board games, virtual computing environments, networking equipment, iPads and tablets, and Raspberry Pis. Most equipment is available for students to loan out for projects or individual exploration.

The CCM experience extends beyond the classroom with dozens of opportunities to get involved, meet others and develop your leadership skills. There are several technology focused clubs and events including:

  • Cybersecurity Club
  • Cyber Centurions Competition Team
  • Computer Science Club
  • Student Electronic Game Organization
  • Game Developers Club
  • Women in STEM Club
  • eSports Team

Some of the activities that these clubs have sponsored or been involved with include:

  • Hackathons – HackCCM, HackHER, HackNJIT – fun, collaborative events where creators develop something in a compressed timeframe
  • MADCCDC – Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition – a hands-on test of cybersecurity skills and experience in a competitive atmosphere
  • Hour of Code – a community event to help others learn the power of coding
  • Python Day – that extends knowledge outside of the classroom
  • Raspberry Pi Day – to learn how to use hardware in creative ways
  • Data Science Day – to expose students to the expansive opportunities for analyzing data
  • Video Game Tournaments – past events featured Super Smash Brothers, Mario Cart, Call of Duty and more
  • Games Gala – the end-of-semester game dev showcase event

Advance Your Career

Need to update your technology skills? Our certificates in Information Security, Web Development and Media Technology, as well as other classes in app development, have helped advance our students’ careers.

An associate-level degree is a major stepping-stone towards your pursuit of a bachelor’s degree and beyond. Our A.S. degree in Computer Science is designed to transfer smoothly to four-year institutions. Many of our Computer Science graduates continue their studies at local New Jersey public and private universities including Rutgers, NJIT, Montclair, William Patterson, Ramapo and Stevens Institute of Technology. Other students have recently attended out-of-state schools such as University of Maryland, Towson, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Amherst College and Columbia University.

While our A.A.S. degree programs are designed for students interested in working after receiving their associates, our AAS students majoring in Information Technology, Game Development and Digital Media Technology often transfer successfully to four-year institutions as well. The industry-leading creative and technical skills learned in these programs translate well on resumes. New Jersey transfer destinations for the A.A.S. degrees include Fairleigh Dickenson University, Bloomfield College, Montclair, Ramapo, Kean, Rutgers and NJIT.
