Professor Horan completed a Post-Master’s certificate in Nursing Education from UMDNJ/Ramapo College in the spring of 2006. Her clinical experience includes the hospital and outpatient settings, working predominantly with cardiovascular patients, but also in women’s health and pediatrics. She has volunteered in the Dominican Republic with Intercultural Nursing, INC and here in the United States with Americares.
Professor Horan worked as an educator of student nurses, preceptor of new staff, and patient educator in her registered nurse position at Overlook Hospital. As an advanced practice nurse, she acted as a preceptor for nurse practitioner students at Morristown Memorial Hospital. For one year she worked as an adjunct faculty member and head clinical instructor at Columbia University. She also worked as an adjunct faculty member at the County College Morris beginning in 2002, prior to joining the college full-time in 2003. She served as Assistant Chairperson and Weekend Nursing Program Coordinator from 2006-2009. She participated in the college’s Leadership Academy in 2006.
Professor Horan published an article in the January-February 2009 edition of Nursing Education Perspectives entitled: “Using the Human Patient Simulator to Foster Critical Thinking in Critical Situations”.
