Born in New York City, Williams moved to New Jersey at an early age and has lived here for most of the time since. He has also taught at these institutions: the University of Michigan, Washington College, the University of Delaware, the College of New Rochelle (Manhattan campus) and Rutgers University at Newark.
He has published three books, numerous articles in scholarly journals and several poems, one of which appeared for over a decade in a nationally known college textbook. Several of his articles have also been anthologized in textbooks used on the college level. He has delivered many lectures, primarily at scholarly conventions nationally. He has won several poetry contests and been awarded three National Endowment for the Humanities summer-scholar grants.
He feels that the students at CCM are among the best he has ever encountered.
