English as a Second Language
Welcome to the English as a Second Language (ESL) program, offered within the Languages & ESL Department at County College of Morris! The mission of the English as a Second Language (ESL) program is to give students whose native language is not English the academic English skills and cultural knowledge they need to complete a degree at a U.S. college or university. We hope these skills serve you at our college and other institutions in the future!
To achieve this, the ESL program at County College of Morris consists of Reading, Writing, and Conversation courses organized into three levels. Students are placed into the appropriate level according to a placement test they take after they are admitted to the College. The ESL program is not for beginners; students must have a basic understanding of English grammar and vocabulary. The ESL program is currently not a certificate or degree program.
Upon successful completion of the ESL program, students go into the appropriate course in the English Department to fulfill the Communications requirement of their major. Students are permitted to enroll in other courses in their major once they successfully complete Level II of the ESL program.
