How to Apply

International students contribute an important global perspective to the College and are a welcome addition to our campus.  Nonimmigrant visa holders who wish to attend County College of Morris on a visa apply to the college as International Students.

Application Checklists - International Student Classifications

Please select one of the following classifications to find your application checklist:

 


Students Applying for F-1 Status from their Home Country

Please submit all of the following items to the Admissions Office by July 1 for the fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester:

  1. An International Student Application for Admission and a $30 non-refundable application fee (checks payable to CCM with student's name printed clearly on the check);
  2. A notarized secondary school transcript translated into English by a verified translation service;
  3. An official university transcript translated into English and evaluated if the student has attended another university in the United States or abroad;
  4. An International Student Data Information Sheet (PDF);
  5. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores of at least 400 (paper test) or 97 (computer-based test) or 32 (internet-based test). Students submitting scores below the minimum will not be offered admission to CCM.
  6. An Affidavit of Financial Support (I-134),which the student will receive in his/her acceptance packet, completed by the student's United States (US) sponsor. Instructions can be found here

 

Additional Information - What Happens Next

  • After CCM receives a completed Affidavit of Financial Support (Form I-134), we will mail the I-20 AB (with instructions) to the student's United States sponsor.As soon as the student receives the I-20 AB he/she can schedule an appointment to apply for the F-1 visa at the United States Consulate.
  • Student should arrive in the US one month prior to the start of classes so he/she can take appropriate English (Levels of English Proficiency - LOEP) and mathematics placement tests, meet with the College's International Student Advisor, register and pay for classes.
  • Student must provide the Admissions Office with of copy of his/her I-94 (Arrival/Departure card), passport, and visa prior to registration.
  • To receive transfer credit from a university attended overseas, the student should submit a copy of his/her transcript to a verified evaluation agency such as World Education Services (WES).
  • All F-1 students must register as full-time (at least 12 credits per semester) students and make satisfactory academic progress.  

 


Non-immigrant Visa Holders (E, G, H, I J, and L visas)

Please submit all of the following items to the Admissions Office

  1. An International Student Application for Admission and $30 non-refundable application fee (checks payable to CCM with student's name printed clearly on the check);
  2. A notarized secondary school transcript translated into English by a verified translation services if student is seeking a CCM associate's degree;
  3. An official course-by-course evaluation completed by a verified agency such as World Education Services (WES), if student is requesting university transfer credits. (Student will have to provide translated transcripts and appropriate fees to the agency to begin this process);
  4. A copy of student's Arrival/Departure Card (I-94), passport, and visa; student's I-94 must be valid for duration of study;
  5. Schedule appropriate English and mathematics placement tests; students in the U.S. should take the LOEP test at CCM and not the TOEFL.

 


Non-immigrant Visa Holders Applying for a Change to F-1 Visa Status

Students may apply to change their status after they have been accepted and issued an I-20 AB. An applicant is "in status" during the time the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) is making a decision concerning the change of status. If a change of status is not approved by the BCIS, the applicant will be required to return to his/her home country immediately and the college will adhere to its official refund policy.

Certain non-immigrants are not permitted to change status to F-1 while in the United States . These non-immigrants may still be eligible for an F-1 visa, but the only way to obtain F-1 status is through applying for an F-1 visa in their home country.

  1. Before filing for a "change of status," (as a current or new CCM student) follow all procedures and adhere to all deadlines for F-1 visa applicants stated above, including being accepted to the college, completing required placement tests, being registered as a full-time (12 credits or more per semester) student, and having paid the tuition bill; students in the U.S. should take the LOEP test at CCM and not the TOEFL;
  2. Complete the Application to Extend/Change Non-immigrant Status (Form I-539) and submit a check, payable to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service, to the CCM Admissions office by July 1 for the fall semester or November 1 for the spring semester;
  3. Schedule an appointment with the CCM International Student Advisor in the Admissions Office.  

 


F-1 Visa Students Transferring to CCM

  1. Follow all the procedures and adhere to all deadlines for F-1 applicants stated above; students in the U.S. should take the LOEP test at CCM and not the TOEFL;
  2. Submit copy of page 3 of I-20 AB and a Foreign Student Advisor Report from previous school student attended by July 1 for the fall semester or by November 1 for the spring semester. CCM will include a Foreign Student Advisor Report to the student in an acceptance packet.

Placement Tests

If English is not your first language, you must also take the Levels of English Proficiency (LOEP) test at CCM before registering for classes. You may schedule this test and all Placement Tests by calling our Center for Assessment and Learning at (973) 328-5166.



Tuition and Fees

Please refer to the semester course schedule or the Bursar's Page for the current tuition and fees for non-immigrant visa holders.

  • F1, F2, H2, H3, J1 and J2 visa holders pay out-of-state tuition.
  • E1, E2, G1, G2, G3, G4, H1, H4, I, L1 and L2 visa holders pay the appropriate in-county or out-of-county tuition if they have resided in NJ for at least one year and have held an eligible visa status for at least one year.
  • F-1 and J-1 visa applicants pay a one-time SEVIS fee.
 

Obligations to maintaining F-1 status at CCM
 
 
Please be aware of your obligations in regards to maintaining F-1 status at CCM. You must also sign and submit Obligations to Maintaining F-1 Status form to the Admissions Office if you have not done so.
