Students can now earn the N.J. Department of Education's high school diploma, called the "Thirty (30) College Credit Route to a State-Endorsed High School Diploma", at the County College of Morris; to a lesser degree, the diploma is also known as the Ability to Benefit Program. Eligible students may earn the aforementioned thirty (30) college credits on a matriculated basis and apply them to an associate degree, thereby completing both the high school diploma and freshman year college simultaneously. Students accepted into this program are also eligible to receive financial aid, if qualified.
Procedures to earn the State-Endorsed Diploma at CCM
1) Submit a completed CCM admissions application with the non-refundable application fee to the Admissions Office.
2) Include a 250-word personal statement with the application, explaining why you want to earn the State-Endorsed Diploma and your educational/career goals.
3) If you have been out of school for less than one (1) year, a letter from the principal is required supporting your enrollment.
4) Arrange for the high school guidance office to mail an official high school transcript to the Admissions Office; this may accompany the aforementioned principal's letter.
5) Upon receipt of the above, the Admissions Office will direct you by letter to schedule an admissions/placement test, i.e., Accuplacer, with the Center for Assessment and Learning. Applicants must pass each section of the test with the following minimum scores: Reading Comprehension, 55; Sentence Sense, 60; Essay, 3; and Arithmetic, 34. An individual with a learning disability may be eligible to take this test with accomodations through CCM's Horizons Program; telephone (973) 328-5284.
6) After receiving scores on all sections of the Accuplacer test, students must contact the Director of Admissions at (973) 328-5096 for permission to enroll.
Students who do not pass the Accuplacer test
- are not eligible to earn the State-Endorsed Diploma at this time through CCM but may be eligible to enroll on a limited, non-matriculated basis
- may earn a high school diploma through an adult high school, e.g., Morris Hills Regional Adult High School, (973) 664-2251, or complete a GED program, e.g., Morris County School of Technology, (973) 627-4600.
