DID YOU KNOW THAT SGA…
- Was responsible for helping finance the building of the pool at CCM?
- Is the organization that has been promoting voter registration on campus for years?
- Had a say on the smoking issue as well as other policies at CCM?
- Has a say on budget spending programs in CCM?
Now you know.
OUR MISSION
The mission of the SGA is to further the well-being of the student body and to promote the ideals of democracy; to expand and coordinate programs of student activities; to stimulate student interest and support in social, cultural and mutual cooperation between students and faculty, and to interpret and defend student rights and interests.
OUR STRUCTURE
Much like our own federal and state government the student government is separated into three branches. The executive branch consists of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and ICC Chair, each elected for a one year term.
The legislature (Senate) is a body of ten representatives, with five students elected per semester. The Judicial Board consists of five student representatives (two freshmen, three seniors) elected to one year terms and two faculty representatives appointed by the President of the college.
THE ROLE OF THE SGA
The Student Government Association of the County College of Morris is an active club that is involved with various college committees and councils to represent the student body. With a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and senators, the SGA handles student and college affairs weekly by means of discussion, debate, and vote.
The SGA promotes student awareness and philanthropy on campus through various projects such as Letters to the Troops, and financial aid awareness campaign. The students’ rights are interpreted by the club to form decisions on social policies (such as smoking), fiscal policies (such as tuition cost), and academic policies (such as class-drop deadlines).
To qualify as a senator, you must be a registered part-time or full-time student with good communication and analytical skills and have a GPA of 2.0 or above. The desire to improve your college and further the well-being of your fellow students is paramount for all SGA members.
CCM SGA is advised by Mr. Donald Phelps, Associate Director of Campus Life.
GETTING INVOLVED
The SGA is currently looking for driven students who wish to serve the CCM community and achieve their full potential. We are looking for students to shape our school with a vision for a better education experience. We are looking for students who have suggestions, criticism, and questions about the academic programs and classes offered. We are looking for students who have innovative solutions to increase budget and better direct expenditure. We are looking for students who can evaluate administrative decisions with solid reasoning and interpretation.
And finally, we are looking for students who just want to help wherever help is needed and lead CCM in a democracy. To request information on the SGA, students may inquire at the Campus Life Information Window in the Student Center, visit the SGA office (room 128 in the Student Center), or contact the SGA at 973-328-5211.
