Resume critiquing services are provided to students and alumni. Drop off your
resume in the Office of Career Services in Cohen Hall, B236 and indicate whether
you will pick it up or if it should be returned to you by mail. Please allow 48
hours for the review. A publication to assist you in creating your resume, The Resume,
is available free of charge on-line or in the Office of Career Services.
Computers for creating a resume are available in the Learning Resource Center
Computer Lab or in the Career Services Internet Job Search Center.
- Through the JobMatch
program, employers who are seeking qualified, career-minded workers and CCM graduates who
are looking for challenging career opportunities are connected.
- Employers provide information about available job
opportunities to the Office of Career Services. This information is input daily into our
database and then posted in the office for graduates to review. New openings are
advertised on-line, accessible by alumni who are registered with
the office.
- A job search consultation with a
counselor is available on an appointment basis to assist graduates as they
address individual employment concerns. Stop by the office in Cohen Hall,
B236 to make an appointment or call 973-328-5245.
- Graduate resumes can be posted on the office's
online resume site. Employers have access to this site 24 hours a day.
Process
- Resumes are critiqued by an
office professional and changes recommended which are thought to improve the resume's
usefulness in the job search.
- When the graduate is ready to approach an employer,
information on many local companies is available in the Resource Center as are
publications on interviewing and preparing employment letters. Graduates are encouraged to
develop strong cover letters to accompany their resumes and to send them in the
traditional manner rather than faxing. Graduates who still wish to fax their credentials
will need to secure such services on their own.
- Office staff may also forward a resume to an employer on
behalf of a registrant if asked to do so by the employer or if there is a direct
connection between the job seeker's skills and the job requirements. The employer either contacts the job seeker directly or asks the
Office of Career Services to do so.
- Graduates are expected to follow up with employers when
appropriate job leads are identified and also with the Office of Career Services once
employment has been secured.
- Graduates may also wish to investigate employment databases available on the Internet. Via your home
computer or those in CCM's Learning Resource Center Computer
Lab, you can access web resources such a the Workforce New Jersey Public Information
Network.
Requirements
- In order to utilize the services, graduates are asked to
register with the office by completing JobMatch Registration Form and preparing a resume.
- In order to continue to utilize JobMatch services, the job
seeker needs to demonstrate a personal commitment to the job search in terms of time and
effort. Periodic communication with the Office of Career Services is expected and
required.
