Career Advisement / Career Research

Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions that we face - whether as students, workers seeking a change, or when entering the labor force after a lengthy absence. A wise choice can lead to rewarding occupational experiences.

Knowing who you are, your interests, values, and skills, as well as various life roles are all important factors to consider when making a major life decision such as choosing a career. The Offices of Counseling Services (Self Awareness - Career Exploration - Curriculum Advisement) and Career Services and Cooperative Education (Learning Through Experience - Job Search/Career Entry) want to help you in this process.

Cooperative Education and Internships/Preliminary Coop

Cooperative Education and Internships at CCM are learning approaches that combine academic studies with work experience related to your major. Co-op offers an opportunity to enhance your total learning experience through paid part-time or full-time employment in a wide variety of supervised work settings. Internships accomplish the same goals but are unpaid experiences. Students who are matriculated in majors offering co-op, have completed a majority of the coursework in their majors, and have GPAs of at least 2.0 may be eligible. CCM's Preliminary Cooperative Education Program offers eligible students a chance to get jobs related to their majors even sooner, though not for credit.

A publication to assist you in creating your resume, The Resume, is available free of charge on-line or in the Office of Career Services. Career Services also offers annual programs and year-round presentations on a variety of job search and career topics. Watch the campus bulletin boards or check with your academic department to learn about upcoming career-related programs.
