  • Teacher's responsibility to teach material.

  • Each subject is taught over a period of 10 months (5 days each week).

  • There are special classes and resource room support.

  • The law provides for evaluation and remediating skills to grade level if possible.


  • The Child Study Team makes sure student's needs are met (determines appropriate placement, communicates with teachers, etc.)

  • The student is entitled to a free public education.

  • Student viewed as a child.

  • Student's responsibility to learn material (with teacher's help).

  • Subjects covered in greater depth in only 15 weeks (2 days each week).

  • All regular classes.


  • The law provides for accommodations for disability when student is otherwise capable.

  • Student is responsible for self-identifying, self-advocating, and self-monitoring.


  • The student pays for everything including remedial courses.

  • Student viewed as an adult.
