Recite & Write: NOTE-TAKING

The main reason we take notes is to help us study. You will find studying has never been so easy when your notes are set up this way!

At the end of each section or the end of the chapter, go back through what you marked in the text.

  1. Put date, topic, and page # at top
  2. Take notes only on right side of right-hand page
  3. Pull out key words and memory cues in margin of right-hand page immediately after reading chapter
  4. Write summary in your own words at bottom of page right after reading
  5. Highlight most important points
  6. Write questions on left-hand page:
    • Likely test questions (T)
    • Help questions to ask professor (H)
    • Questions that you wonder about that are of personal interest to you (I)
  7. Write code for kind of question (T,H,I) in margin of left-hand page (optional)
  8. Rewriting or typing notes is a wonderful study aid
