Tricks of the Trade -- TEXTBOOK READING
Read & Highlight (or Underline)
- Read one section at a time.
- Read first -- then go back and highlight (or underline).
- Main point (green highlighter or double underline).
- Supporting details (yellow highlighter or single underline).
- Use a 3 x 5 card to keep your place, underline, and check new terms you listed (during your SURVEY) to be clarified.
- Number items in a sequence or list.
- Put a "?" in the margin next to anything you do not understand. Mark the page number on a 3 x 5 card, a "Post-It" or the front, inside cover of your book. ASK your professor to explain.
- Put ( ) around examples of key concepts given in the text.
