"The Visible Human Project is an outgrowth of the NLM's 1986 Long-Range
Plan. It is the creation of complete,
anatomically detailed, three-dimensional representations of the normal male and
female human bodies. Acquisition of transverse CT, MR and cryosection
images of representative male and female
cadavers has been completed. The male was sectioned at one millimeter
intervals, the female at one-third of a millimeter intervals". Some
of the images can be accessed for free,
but the entire project is available only to those who have paid for access.
Visible Human Server
http://visiblehuman.epfl.ch/
This Web site from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology allows users to
view three dimensional models of human anatomy. A free registration allows users
to log on and fully access the site, but there are some sample demonstrations
available without registration. When visiting the site, you can view, rotate,
and extract cross sections from the anatomical models, or build your own
anatomic model by choosing the structures of interest.
