The official site for National Poetry Month.  It has a special Langston Hughes Centenary Exhibit page and a Calendar of Events  for National Poetry Month.  A wonderful feature of this site is the Listening Booth, an audio collection of several American poets reading their own works.  This site has an online Poetry Discussion Forum.  You must register with the Academy before posting messages to the discussion groups, but membership is free. 

Favorite Poem Project

This site was coordinated by Robert Pinsky, the former poet laureate of the United States.    The site has an indexed database of over 18,000 letters from Americans revealing the personal meaning they derive from their "favorite poem."  At the heart of the site is a video gallery of "50 short video documentaries showcasing individual Americans reading and speaking personally about poems they love."

"Today, the Poetry and Literature Center is the home of the Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry at the Library of Congress. In addition to supporting the Poet Laureate’s activities and interests, the Center sponsors an annual series of public poetry and fiction readings, lectures, symposia, occasional dramatic performances, and other literary events."  The PLC also administers several prestigious poetry prizes and maintains an archive which contains sound recordings of over 2,000 poets reading their own work.   Visit the Poetry Cybercast section for  multimedia presentations of LC poetry events.

A  very comprehensive site, covering "ezines, poetry sites, audio poetry, literary appreciation, criticism and reviews, poetry courses, workshops, conferences, book news, literary chit-chat and trade news, plus sources to improve your own writing and get it published."  It also links to Poetry Magic, a UK site that covers all areas of prosody.  The  Poetry Online sidebar has  a wonderful collection of international poetry links as well.

A great poetry Metasite that has links to  Poetry Colonies, Conferences & Festivals, Poetry Journals, Poetry Book Publishers, MFA Programs in Poetry, Literary Organizations & Miscellaneous Resources, and Independent Literary Bookstores.  The PSA also offers Crossroads Online, a select online archive of articles culled from The Journal of the Poetry Society of America and transcripts of PSA sponsored panel discussions and debates.   The PSA also sponsors the NYC Poetry in Motion contest and several poetry awards.

Poets House

Poets' house is a literary center and poetry archive located at 72 Spring Street in Manhattan.  The organization sponsors over 50 public programs each year.  The Poets' House library is free and open to the public.  "A national archive of 40,000 volumes of poetry, the Poets' House collection includes books, chapbooks, literary journals, an audio and video tape archive, CDs, and electronic media. It is the largest and most comprehensive poetry collection available to the public in open stacks anywhere in the country."

Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Program

The Dodge Poetry Program works with NJ teachers to bring poetry to high school students. It also sponsors the biennial Poetry Festival in Waterloo Village in addition to several Min-Festivals throughout NJ high schools. The Program also sponsors poet visits to high schools, hosts a NJ High School Student Poetry Contest, and provides lesson plans and teacher's guides for poetry studies.

Each month, the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College publishes a Calendar of Events listing poetry readings in New Jersey.  This organization also sponsors the Distinguished Poets Reading Series, publishes the Paterson Literary Review, houses a 10,000 volume Poetry Library and sponsors the Allen Ginsberg and Paterson poetry prizes.
