SELECTED ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

ANIMALS

Breeds of Livestock
http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds

The Electronic Zoo
http://netvet.wustl.edu/ssi.htm
Like the NetVet Veterinary Resources site, the Electronic Zoo is vast in size, and unwieldy for locating specific information. However, it is divided into categories that are useful for browsing. The quality of the links varies; some are scientific or scholarly, others are intended for entertainment. Categories include domestic animals (ferrets, pigs, small ruminants, cows, dogs, etc.,) and some less familiar animals (marine mammals, invertebrates, zoo animals, etc.) There are also categories for image and sound files.

Equine Resources
http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/library/equine.html

Provides an abundance of web resources on horses.

The Raptor Center
http://www.raptor.cvm.umn.edu
"...specializes in the medical care, rehabilitations, and conservation of eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons.

DISEASES

Animal Diseases
http://www.ianr.unl.edu/pubs/animaldisease/
Produced by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Institute of Agricultural and Natural Resources. Provides short articles on a limited number of diseases of cattle, swine, sheep, poultry, horses, and general livestock. Each article includes the author’s name and specialty.

Case Studies in Small Animal Cardiovascular Medicine
http://www.vmth.ucdavis.edu/cardio/cases/
Offers 36 actual cases of canine and feline cardiovascular disorders. Each case study presented at the University of Southern California Veterinary Teaching Hospital and first lists the primary physician, the faculty surgeon, and the consulting clinician for that case. Studies next provide signalment, presenting complaints, history, physical examination, and problems of the case, along with radiographs and echocardiograms. Finally, a short quiz of one or several questions follows.

eyevet.org
http://www.eyevet.org

Examines eye problems with dogs.

Infectious Animal and Zoonotic Disease Surveillance
www.fas.org/ahead/
"Disease Information" provides access to the archives of ProMED, a mailing list established by the Federation of American Scientists. The archives are searchable by the name of the species or disease.   Links to Other Resources" (at the bottom of the AHEAD home page) provides links to veterinary information sites in several categories, including disease information, epidemiology, and electron micrography.

GENERAL SOURCES

Current Veterinary Journals
http://www.medvet.umontreal.ca/biblio/vetjr.html#TOP

A free indexing service (rare on the Internet!) produced by the University of Montreal. The service indexes articles from over 100 veterinary journals in English. Citations are taken from the tables of contents of the journals, and the journals indexed are listed on the main page. The "Database reference search engine" allows keyword searching for up to three keywords.

Intute : Health and Life Sciences - Veterinary
http://vetgate.ac.uk/about/
" ...a gateway to evaluated, quality Internet resources...created by a core team of information specialists and subject experts based at the University of Nottingham Greenfield Medical Library."  Resources are good, though coverage is spotty.  The search engine works best with single word searches such as "euthanasia" or "horses."

NetVet Veterinary Resources
http://netvet.wustl.edu/vet.htm
A huge, comprehensive collection of links to veterinary and animal sites. Its vast size makes it difficult to use, especially since the internal search engine leads to broad categories, not to specific sites. A good resource for anyone willing to spend some time browsing, but less useful for locating specific information.
