County College of Morris (CCM) has been selected by the Boy Scouts of America’s New Jersey-based Patriots’ Path Council to participate in the 2015 Liberty Jamboree, scheduled for October 2 – 4 in Jersey City’s Liberty State Park, overlooking the Statue of Liberty and New York City.
The Liberty Jamboree will serve as a weekend home to more than 5,000 Boy Scouts, Venturers, Sea Scouts and Explorers from the tristate region who will participate in a hands-on, multifaceted program. The event also serves as Scouting’s first overnight camping experience in Liberty State Park since 2001. In addition to Jamboree participants, the three-day program is expected to draw thousands of visitors, including Cub Scouts, Webelos, parents, prospective Scouts, and the general public.
At this special, one-time event, the CCM Mathematics Club will be offering three different programs: Cycloid Curves Demonstration, Candle Plane Under Electrical Influence and a Shape Building Station.
“We’re proud that the CCM Mathematics Club will be playing a role in the Jamboree, which promises to be educational, great fun, and long remembered by participants,” said Dr. Edward J. Yaw, CCM president.
The 2015 Liberty Jamboree will include outdoor challenges involving kayaking, a monkey bridge, buckskin games and backwoods survival; high-adventure activities such as climbing walls, a slack rope obstacle course, zip line and target paintball; a STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program including robotics and skill trades; and an arena show that will feature live entertainment and appearances by local and national dignitaries.
CCM joins several other organizations that have been selected to participate in the Liberty Jamboree, including Rutgers University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Kean University, New Jersey City University, Montclair State University, Eastern Propane, Ramsey Popcorn, United States Coast Guard, and many more.
According to Patriots’ Path Council Scout Executive/CEO Dennis J. Kohl, “We are honored to have highly respected organizations like CCM join us as partners in making the 2015 Liberty Jamboree a success. We appreciate their support of this special event, and of the Scouting organization.”
