CCM Men’s Golf Team Qualifies for National Championships

Squad to Compete with Division III’s Best in Chautauqua, NY - Posted 5/30/13
The County College of Morris (CCM) Titans men’s golf team has qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III National Championships, the third time in seven years the team has accomplished the feat. This year’s qualification follows the Titans’ back-to-back appearances in 2007 and 2008.

Led by head coach Matt Mugavero and assistant coach Jim Chegwidden, a group of four players will compete in the tournament from June 2 to 7 at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, NY. The team has been anchored this year by Tyler Eike of Rockaway Township and Nick Aemisegeo of Parsippany, who finished second and third at the NJCAA Region XIX Championships at Cape May National Golf Club with scores of 75-79 and 75-81, respectively. Eike was also the runner-up at the Garden State Athletic Conference Championships at High Bridge Hills Golf Club with a score of 74.

Eike will be joined by Brian Cherello of Morristown, Damian Garrett of Rockaway Borough and Travis Sackman of Roxbury. Aemisegeo chose to attempt to qualify for the New Jersey Amateur Championships, which conflicts with the national tournament.

Along with the three recent team appearances, Titans have qualified individually five times. In 2004 and 2005, Mike Mrugal, a Morris Knolls High School graduate, qualified. In 2006, Nick Lamberti, a Madison High School graduate, qualified. Robert Gomez, a Roxbury High School graduate, qualified in 2009 and Dan Bentson, a High Point High School graduate, qualified in 2010.
