White House Summit on Community Colleges to be Webcast at CCM

County College of Morris will be running a live webcast of the White House Summit on Community Colleges Tuesday, October 5, starting at 12:15 p.m. in the Student Community Center, Davidson Room, on its Randolph Campus. It is expected that the program will run until 4:00 p.m. Following the summit, Dr. Edward J. Yaw, CCM president, will host a conversation on how CCM can follow-up on the points raised in the summit.

President Barack Obama has convened this first-ever White House Summit on Community Colleges to highlight the importance of community colleges to students and the economy. The session will be chaired by Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden and professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College.

“We’re delighted that the President has convened this summit to highlight the critical role community colleges play in the nation’s higher education system,” said Yaw. “Community colleges hold a special mission of providing a quality and affordable higher education so individuals from all walks and stages of life have an opportunity to achieve their dreams.”

The summit will bring together community colleges; business, philanthropy, federal and state policy leaders; and students to discuss how community colleges can help meet the job training and education needs of the nation’s evolving workforce, as well as the critical role these institutions play in achieving the President’s goal to lead the world with the highest proportion of college graduates by 2020.

Community colleges, enrolling more than 8 million students a year, represent the largest part of America’s higher education system
