Update on H1N1

Monday, November 16, 2009
A Message from President Yaw

In response to the possibility of a significant outbreak of the H1N1 virus at CCM, we have organized a Critical Incident Command Team, which meets on a bi-weekly basis to assess the number of confirmed cases of H1N1 among students and employees, our response to these incidents, and the status of the availability of vaccines for distribution on-campus.  When we are notified of a confirmed case of the virus, we continue following our established protocol of having Plant and Maintenance staff perform enhanced disinfecting of classrooms, offices, and general areas where the individual with the virus may have been.  Additionally, the Office of Health Services maintains contact with the affected individuals to monitor the progress of their recovery.

We received confirmation from the Morris County Office of Public Health that currently there is a shortage in the supply of the H1N1 vaccine.  This is resulting in a focus on offering more public clinics and fewer specialized clinics until such time that more vaccines become available.  However, we continue working with the Randolph Department of Public Health to schedule an H1N1 Clinic here at CCM.  We expect that the clinic may be offered sometime during the week of November 30, 2009.  More details will be made available as soon as the plans are confirmed.  Thus, we strongly recommend that members of the CCM community take advantage of any of the public clinics available throughout the County.  You can access information about those clinics by accessing the following link:

In the meantime, I want to remind college members to

·     Wash your hands often and utilize the disinfectant dispensers that are installed in hallways and restrooms around campus.
·     Cover your mouth when coughing and sneeze into your elbow or shoulder.
·     Stay home if you feel flu-like symptoms coming on.
·     If you are ill, wait until your temperature is normal for at least 24 hours before returning to work or class.
