Mission Statement The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) was established in August 1988 as a means for assisting faculty and professional staff in achieving teaching excellence. The Mission of the Center for Teaching Excellence is to serve the County College of Morris by discovering, motivating, sustaining and facilitating excellence in all phases of the teaching mission of the college. The focus is to provide leadership for effective teaching and to serve as a resource for the continued enrichment and development of the college community. The mission will be achieved with support from the Board of Trustees, administrative leadership and participation by the faculty in achieving the Center's goals. Recognizing that teaching and learning are the focal points in the developing of excellence, the Center has the following goals:
There are a number of programs, services and activities which support the goals and objectives of the Center for Teaching Excellence. Twice a year the Director edits and publishes the Update newsletter containing articles by CCM faculty and professional staff. Small group activities are provided through the Faculty Exchange Forums that focus on teaching and learning. Professional development workshops and courses are offered through the In-House Training Program each spring and fall semester. One-on-one assistance is also available through the Director and the Teaching/Learning Technology Center which is housed in the Learning Resource Center. The Teaching/Learning Technology Center Summer Institute is also sponsored by the CTE in an effort to assist faculty and staff develop instructional technology skills. CCM continues its participation in the Princeton Mid-Career Fellowship Program which was begun more than fifteen years ago. The program allows community college scholars to study in their academic discipline and to attend a year-long seminar on the community college at Princeton University. The Center is a sponsor of The New Jersey Project, the first statewide curriculum transformation project in the nation, and invites two speakers a year to the college. CTE also sends faculty representatives to the week-long New Jersey Project Summer Institute at Rutgers University to acquaint faculty with the latest scholarship on inclusive curriculum and to assist them in planning curriculum innovations. The Center encourages faculty to participate in the Fulbright Scholar Program.
