GENERAL INFORMATION

Distance Learning is a flexible option for the self-motivated student. Courses can be completed in the comfort of your own home, although some courses may require visits to the college campus for testing. Information on each course is available under the semester offerings above. Questions? Call  973-328-5290 or email lrcdist@ccm.edu. Also, be sure to view the Distance Learning FAQs.

COURSE TYPES

ONLINE: A course where all instruction traditionally provided in class is replaced with instruction online.  However, an online course may require an in-person student orientation and/or proctored test/assessments.

HYBRID: A course where a significant portion of the learning activities have been moved online, with an equivalent reduction in face-to-face meetings.

TELECOURSE: A course that consists of video or audio lessons, textbooks, and course assignments.  Interaction with faculty and 1 to 4 campus visits are required.

TELENET: A course requiring online work along with video or audio lessons, textbooks, and course assignments.  Interaction with faculty including contact through email and 1 to 4 campus visits are required.

REGISTERING  FOR DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES

Before a student can register for any courses, they must be admitted to the college through the Admissions Office. Students must see their CCM advisor for assistance in planning course work each semester. Registering for a distance learning course is the same procedure as for on-campus CCM courses. Please visit the Registrar for more information.

CONFIRMATION LETTERS

Confirmation letters are sent to Distance Learning students prior to the first day of classes.  It will contain important information about logging onto Blackboard and orientation information. Please be sure to bring your letter with you to the orientation session. Remember, courses are not available for login until the first day of class.

ORIENTATION

Orientation for Distance Learning students is offered numerous times at the beginning of each semester. To view the current schedules click on the current semester shown at the top of the page. Orientation is especially recommended for students who have never taken a Distance Learning course. Some instructors have mandatory orientations. To check for mandatory orientations, please be sure to view the current semester course offerings and check the Specific Course Information as well as the link under the course title.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

Strong computer skills and the appropriate equipment are a necessity for the distance learner. Students should be able to perform basic computer functions including use of email, files and folders; downloading software; and cutting and pasting from one document to another. Some courses may require broadband access. Please check the course information pages under the semester listings for specific requirements. To be sure that your equipment is up to date, visit the Technical Requirements information page.
