Taking Advantage of Expanding Career Opportunities
County College of Morris has launched an Electronic Health Records System Technologist Certificate program to prepare professionals to take advantage of expanding career opportunities being created by the transition to computerized patient health records.

Over the next 10 years, the federal government is expected to provide up to $27 billion to doctors and hospitals to buy equipment to computerize patient health records. Starting in 2015, doctors and hospitals that have not made the transition to electronic health records will be subject to financial penalties under Medicare.

“CCM is proud to be one of the first colleges in New Jersey to offer a certification program in electronic health records,” said Edward J. Yaw, CCM president. “The program offers an opportunity for individuals during these still difficult economic times to prepare themselves for careers in a field that is experiencing better-than-average job growth.”

Career opportunities in electronic health records include implementation consultants, project and account managers, training professionals, and support staff. The CCM program provides students both with the foundational knowledge and technology skills needed to establish a career in the field, covering such topics as system selection and implementation, project management, the essential components of electronic health records and health information exchange, and applied information technology.
