Union’s $11,000 Gift to CCM Foundation to Fund Outdoor Seating, Charging Stations

Students and community members will soon have a beautifully renovated patio area to enjoy at County College of Morris (CCM), as well as convenient places to charge their electronic devices, thanks to the generosity of the adjunct faculty at the college.
The CCM United Adjunct Faculty, the union that represents adjunct faculty at the college, made a gift of $11,000 to the CCM Foundation that will fund two wheelchair-accessible tables, four four-seat tables, and two steel benches to help create an even more inviting atmosphere on the college’s Randolph campus. The donation will also fund two wall-mounted and two free-standing charging stations that will be installed throughout the academic buildings, giving students the ability to charge laptops, tablets, phones and other electronic devices often used in their studies.
“The overwhelming thought by our members was that this is something that benefits the students,” said Tom Miller, adjunct professor of business at CCM and vice chair of the adjunct faculty union. “It seemed like an obvious benefit to assist students in their daily needs.”
This is just the latest commitment made to the college by the union. Five years ago the adjunct faculty began funding scholarships through the CCM Foundation. Three scholarships are now funded by the union and the group also supports the foundation’s annual scholarship gala, purchasing two tables at this past April’s event. Miller said this year the union decided it wanted to do more.
The seating will be installed on the patio outside of the Student Community Center facing Parking Lot 6. A new paver system will also be installed this fall at the same time. The charging stations will be installed in student lounges throughout campus. Construction for the projects has already begun and is expected to end in late fall.
“The CCM Foundation and our students are grateful to the CCM United Adjunct Faculty for its continued support,” said Joseph T. Vitale, executive director of College Advancement and Planning, and president of the foundation. “This latest donation will continue to foster a welcoming and useful campus to students and the Morris County community as a whole. The adjuncts’ continuing commitment to CCM means so much to us.”
Miller says the adjunct faculty union is proud to be able to make a difference at the college.
“We believe that CCM is a great place that fulfills an important mission in the community and we want to support that,” Miller said. “Aiding our students through donating is an extension of the mission of the entire college.”
