Promethean Selected in Competitions that Include Professional Designers – Posted 10/8/14
Promethean, the award-winning County College of Morris (CCM) student literary magazine, recently received honors for two separate editions, adding to its long list of previous awards.
The 2012-13 issue was presented with a Gold award in the 2014 American Inhouse Design Awards in the Publications category. In addition, the 2013-14 Promethean has been selected as a winner in the 2014 American Graphic Design Awards, an award that the 2012-13 issue also won last year.
Both competitions are sponsored by Graphic Design USA, a monthly trade publication for graphic designers that has sponsored national design competitions for 50 years. Promethean was judged against work produced by professional designers, as there are no student-only categories. The American Graphic Design Awards are particularly selective, as the competition is open to the entire design community and recognizes excellence in all media. More than 8,000 submissions were received in this year’s contest, and only 15 percent of those were selected for recognition.
This marks yet another year that Promethean has been honored by Graphic Design USA. The 2010-11and 2011-12 issues of Promethean also won American Inhouse Design Awards, while the 2010-11 issue was also presented an American Graphic Design Award in the Publications category, an honor the magazine had won in each of the previous five years.
Promethean has now won more than 20 awards since 2005. Included in that list are three International Creativity Awards in the Editorial Design, Single category and two in the Magazine Design, Interior category.
The 2012-2013 student staff was made up of graphic design students Jhon Grisales, of Dover; Kristin McFall, of Hewitt; Cheryl Schoch, of Flanders; Jessica Swingle, of Succasunna; Eric Vita, of Morris Plains; and Nyssa Wawra, of Lake Hopatcong. The 2013-14 staff included Duvan Agudelo, of Morris Plains; Jesse Amici, of Randolph; Chelsea Faresich, of Randolph; Kevin Nunes, of Roseland; and Robert Rivera, of Rockaway. Professor Kathy McNeil serves as faculty advisor for Promethean.
“Once again, Promethean has garnered several prestigious awards in a national competition,” Clay Allen, chair of Visual Arts at CCM, said. “These honors amply demonstrate the excellence of the Graphic Design program here at County College of Morris. We are very proud of the talent and hard work of the Promethean production team and all of the excellent students who contribute their work to this prestigious publication.”
