CCM Professor and Graphic Designer Receives Six Additional Awards of Excellence
Stephen H. Longo Recognized for His Logo and Environmental Designs – Posted 10/9/14
Following on his recent success in the 29th Annual Graphic Design & Advertising Awards competition, Stephen H. Longo, professor at County College of Morris (CCM) and graphic designer, recently was presented with six American Graphic Design Awards from Graphic Design USA (GD USA).
Longo, of West Orange, received Design Excellence Awards in the Environmental Graphics category for a buffet water wall he designed for Ekko restaurant in West Orange and in the Book Design category for the work he did for the Paulinskill Poetry Project in Andover. He received four awards in the Logo Design category for the logos he designed for AdLab in Fairfield, Matsuya restaurant in Saddle Brook, POP n FOLD Papers in Lyndhurst, and his own firm Stephen Longo Design Associates in West Orange.
The GD USA American Graphic Design Awards, now in its fifth decade, is considered the original and biggest showcase for work by designers.
Both the Ekko water wall and the POP n FOLD logo design also won awards in the Annual Graphic Design & Advertising Awards competition, along with three other designs by Longo.
“This year has been an amazing one for my design studio,” said Longo. “Receiving these six additional awards truly is an honor especially considering that GD USA received more than 8,000 entries from design firms around the world.”
Also last month, Longo served as a judge for the second year in a row for the Annual International W3 Awards, which recognizes web creativity. As a judge, Longo reviewed 75 websites including colleges and universities, retail stores, non-profits, and professional and health organizations.
Before joining the CCM faculty in 2001, Longo rose through the ranks from junior designer to senior design director at several major international design groups including CatoJohnson, Young & Rubicam, and Lippincott & Marguilies Inc. Included among his work, he has created logos and branding identity programs for such blue-chip clients as Haagen-Dazs, Weight Watchers Smart Ones, Tang, Star Kist Tuna, Close-Up toothpaste, Ronzoni pasta, Borden’s Cremora, Ore-Ida and 9-Lives cat food.
Over the course of his career, he has won numerous awards including several Clios. His body of design work also was nominated for a lifetime achievement award to the Smithsonian/Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in the area of communications design.
Longo teaches graphic design at CCM. He earned his BFA from the New York Institute of Technology and M.S. from Pratt Institute.
