Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing Program for High School Students – Posted 2/20/15

The Morris County Vocational School District in partnership with County College of Morris (CCM) is offering a new Share Time program, Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing (EDAM), for Morris County high school students. The program will prepare students for a career in engineering and advanced manufacturing.

EDAM is designed for students with an interest in engineering, computer applications and manufacturing who will learn through college-level work and hand-on activities. “Utilizing cutting-edge technologies in a newly renovated state of the art facility at CCM, students will be prepared for careers in a growing industry,” said Shari Castelli, Director of Curriculum and Programs at the Morris County School of Technology.

An Open House on the program will be held at CCM Thursday, February 26, at 6 p.m. to provide students and their parents with the opportunity to meet with faculty, tour the facilities and talk with industry representatives about available job opportunities. The Open House takes place in Sheffield Hall, Room 158, on CCM’s Randolph campus, 214 Center Grove Road.

Program coursework will include areas such as basic engineering graphics, computer-aided drafting, materials for engineering technology, technical computer applications, mechanical prototyping, and electricity and electronics. Castelli also stated the program will include work-based learning experiences through industry partnerships.

Upon completion of the two-year program, students will earn 32 credits from CCM and Certificates of Achievement in Mechanical Computer Aided Drafting and Engineering Technology. Students may then enroll in CCM’s Associates in Applied Science in Engineering Technology program for one additional year to earn their associate degree, or at a four-year college or university, or pursue workforce placement.

“We’re delighted to offer Morris County high school students this fast-track program to prepare them for careers in the rapidly expanding field of engineering design and advanced manufacturing,” said Dr. Edward J. Yaw, President of CCM.

Students in 10th grade may apply via an online application at www.mcvts.org under Admissions>Application Form> Share Time Programs tabs. The application deadline is March 6th.

Share Time programs are half-day sessions providing juniors and seniors in high school the opportunity to receive daily career and technical training as part of their school program. EDAM is currently planned for the afternoon session and will be held at CCM in Randolph.
