Dr. Jane Armstrong Recognized by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges – Posted 6/16/15
Dr. Jane A. Armstrong, dean of Corporate and Community Programs (CCP) at County College of Morris (CCM), has become the college’s latest administrator selected by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC) to receive its Community College Spirit Award.
Armstrong, of Sparta, was selected based on her dedication to and excellence in advancing the community college mission. In particular, the award recognizes her leadership in working with the NJCCC Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development to provide workforce training to employees in partnership with the New Jersey Business & Industry Association.
As a member of the NJCCC Senior Continuing Education Officers group, she also contributed to securing and managing $30 million in federal funding for multiple community colleges to deliver credit and non-credit curriculum. Federal programs include the Health Professions Opportunity Grant, Trade Adjustment Act Community College and Career Training Grant, and H1-B Technical Skills and Training Grant. CCM received approximately $3 million in academic program support from those grants. In addition, she chaired the Senior Continuing Education Officers’ workforce consortium policy review committee.
“The Community College Spirit Award is an honor bestowed on a select few who have helped advance the community college movement,” noted NJCCC officials in their award letter to Armstrong. The award will be presented to Armstrong at the NJCCC meeting on Monday, June 22, in Trenton.
“I’m thrilled to be receiving this award,” said Armstrong. “I have a passion for community colleges and workforce development and it’s nice to be acknowledged for that.”
Armstrong has been an employee at CCM for 11 years. Prior to her position as CCP dean, she served as dean of the Division of Health and Natural Sciences. She previously held the positions of professor and chair of the Department of Biology and Chemistry at Centenary College.
She is the sixth CCM employee in five consecutive years to be selected for the NJCCC Spirit Award. Last year, Dr. Bette Simmons, vice president of Student Development and Enrollment Management, and Robert Lipka, director of customized training solutions, received the Spirit Award. In 2013, Joseph T. Vitale, executive director of College Advancement and Planning and president of the Foundation at CCM, was honored. In 2012, Sheri Ventura, coordinator of Distance Learning Services, won the award. In 2011, Dr. Dwight Smith, vice president of Academic Affairs, was presented with the award.
