Eight Either Hold a Terminal Degree, or are in the Process of Obtaining One – Posted 8/26/15

County College of Morris (CCM) has hired nine new full-time faculty members in the Divisions of Business, Mathematics, Engineering and Technologies; Health and Natural Sciences; and Liberal Arts. Eight of the nine either hold a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree, or are in the process of obtaining one.

All of the new hires are replacements for open positions. The new faculty members are:

Dorothy Artale, Jackson, assistant professor, biology/chemistry, was most recently an adjunct instructor of general biology and life sciences, as well as a closed laboratory learning assistant and laboratory instructor, at Brookdale Community College. She was also previously an environmental field instructor with the New Jersey Marine Science Consortium in Sandy Hook. She earned her M.S. from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and her B.S. from The College of New Jersey.

Dr. George Bennett, Montclair, assistant professor, engineering science/physics, previously was a professor in the Department of Physics at Essex County College. Prior to that, he was an adjunct professor at William Paterson University. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. from City University of New York and his B.A. from Rutgers University.

Dr. Teresa Birrer, Succasunna, assistant professor, biology, has been an adjunct professor at CCM since 2013, teaching lecture and laboratory classes in biology. She received her Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire and her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College.

Dr. Karen Danna, Califon, associate professor, sociology, previously was a visiting assistant professor in the anthropology and sociology department at Lafayette College. Prior to that, she was a postdoctoral research and teaching fellow of cultural neuroscience at the Center for Culture, Brain and Development in the School of Cognitive Science at Hampshire College. She earned her Ph.D., M.A. and B.A. from Rutgers University.

Evelyn Emma, Caldwell, assistant professor, English, previously held a one-year appointment as assistant professor at CCM. She has worked as an adjunct professor at CCM and Montclair State University. She is currently working on her doctorate in literature and criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She earned her M.A. from the University of Connecticut and her B.A. from Messiah College.

Dr. Candace Halo, Denville, assistant professor, political science, previously was a senior lecturer at Rutgers University, as well as Seton Hall University. Halo also secured and managed undergraduate internships for the Washington Internship Program at Rutgers. She earned her Ph.D., M.A. and M.S. from Rutgers, and her B.A. from Centenary College.

Michael Sidaras-Tirrito, East Stroudsburg, PA; assistant professor; information technologies; has taught as an adjunct professor at Pace University, Warren County Community College and Northampton Community College, among others. He is currently working on his DPS in computing from Pace University, where he previously earned his M.S. and B.S.

Dr. Mark Uffelman, Randolph, assistant professor, English and philosophy, previously held a one-year appointment as assistant professor at CCM. Prior to that, he was an adjunct professor at such institutions as Elizabethtown College and Shippensburg University. He received his Ph.D. from Temple University and his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Anthony Valentino, Hazlet, assistant professor, English, previously held a one-year appointment as assistant professor at CCM. He has also been an instructor at Brookdale Community College, and an adjunct instructor at multiple colleges, including Monmouth University and Middlesex Community College. He received his Doctor of Letters from Drew University, a master’s degree from Monmouth University, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Montclair State University.
