Glenn Martin, Founder of JustLeadershipUSA, the Latest Speaker at CCM’s Legacy Project – Posted 1/15/16
This Spring Semester, County College of Morris (CCM) continues its Legacy Project lecture series by exploring the topic of prison reform.
Coming to campus as the event’s keynote speaker will be Glenn E. Martin, founder and president of JustLeadershipUSA (JLUSA), an organization dedicated to cutting the United States correctional population in half by 2030. The lecture takes place on Thursday, February 11, at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Community Center, Davidson Rooms, on CCM’s Randolph campus, 214 Center Grove Road.
A national leader and criminal justice reform advocate, Martin spent six years as a prisoner in New York state prisons. Prior to founding JLUSA, he served for seven years as vice president of development and public affairs at The Fortune Society, one of the most respected reentry organizations in the country, and six years as co-director of the National HIRE Network at the Legal Action Center. Martin is also the co-founder of the Education from the Inside Out Coalition, a 2014 Echoing Green Black Male Achievement Fellow, a 2012 America’s Leaders of Change National Urban Fellow, and a member of the governing boards of the College and Community Fellowship.
“We are eager for Glenn Martin to bring his expertise and passion for this Legacy Project topic to campus,” said Professor Emily Birx, one of the project’s co-chairs. “The state of this country’s correctional system is a highly debated subject. This lecture promises to be a stimulating experience.”
This is the third academic year CCM will be hosting the Legacy Project. It follows the Fall Semester’s event, which welcomed Josh Neufeld, an award-winning cartoonist and the writer/artist of “A.D. New Orleans After the Deluge.” That program recognized the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and its lasting impact. The first program took place in December of 2013 and focused on the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement.
The Legacy Project is co-chaired by Professor Michelle Altieri, Communication; Birx, English and Philosophy; and Professor John Soltes, Communication.
