Fundraiser to Take Place at the Rockaway River Country Club in Denville – Posted 9/6/2016
RANDOLPH, NJ — The County College of Morris (CCM) Foundation will host its annual golf outing fundraiser for the second year in a row at the Rockaway River Country Club in Denville, on Monday, September 26.
The annual outing raises funds for the college’s scholarship program as well as a new fund to assist U.S. military veteran students.
Founded in 1915 and designed by Devereaux Emmet, Rockaway River’s 6,561, par 72 course is considered one of the most beautiful in northwestern New Jersey. Emmet’s courses include the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD, and Bethpage in New York.
“We’re thrilled to be able to once again offer our golfers one of our area’s most prestigious courses,” said Joseph Vitale, president of the CCM Foundation. “Players will find it challenging but fair. There are many golfers who have always wanted to play Rockaway River. Now they’ll have the chance.”
The day begins with registration and lunch at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Modified scramble rules will be in play and awards will be presented for both men’s and women’s low gross and low net. In addition, the outing will offer the seventh annual Corporate Challenge in which corporations and organizations compete for a separate prize. Last year’s winners were: the CCM Class of ’83 (low gross) and Investors Bank (low net).
Half of the proceeds from this year’s outing will be dedicated to the new CCM Fund for Veterans and Families. The fund will allow CCM veteran students and/or their dependents to apply for non-academic assistance such as housing expenses, day-care and wellness support.
“Our population of U.S. military veteran students has been growing,” Vitale said, “and this new fund allows us to help them with expenses that are not covered under the new GI Bill. Half of the proceeds from this year’s outing will be dedicated to that effort.”
The outing will also offer participants the chance to compete for hole-in-one prizes, trips and cars. In addition, Presenting Sponsors will have the opportunity to add a U.S. military veteran to their foursomes.
