Morris School District Agrees to Share Space at High School – Posted 1/6/17
County College of Morris (CCM) will begin offering English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL) classes at Morristown High School in early February under an arrangement approved by the Morris School District Board of Education on Tuesday, January 3.
The following classes, offered through the Department of Corporate and Community Programs (CCP) at CCM, will take place at Morristown High School:
•ESL Beginner – Levels 1 and 2, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m., February 7 – April 27
•ESL Intermediate – Levels 3 and 4, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m., February 7 – April 27
•ESL Advanced – Levels 5 and 6, Mondays and Tuesdays, 6 to 8 p.m., February 6 – April 25
“We’re delighted that the Morris School District Superintendent and Board of Education have agreed to partner with CCM so we can continue to serve the Morristown community,” said Dr. Anthony J. Iacono, president of CCM. “This new partnership will bring greater educational opportunities to our community. I also am grateful to the administrators who worked so hard at CCM and the school district to make sure we were able to secure a new location in Morristown.”
In late November, the college gave up the space it had been using at 30 Schuyler Place in Morristown after it was informed by the county that the facility was needed to accommodate an increase in governmental services.
“The key to any healthy community is forming meaningful partnerships and this collaboration with CCM will provide opportunities to our families and certainly strengthen our community,” said Morris School District Superintendent of Schools Mackey Pendergrast.
Along with ESL classes, CCM hopes in the coming semesters to increase its offerings in Morristown. The CCM classes at Morristown High School are being offered as part of the Morris School District Community School. The Community School’s mission is to provide programs that support learning throughout all stages of life.
“Our goal is to continue to provide the Morristown area with courses and programs that help people to achieve their goals,” said Patrick Enright, dean of the Division of Business, Mathematics, Engineering and Technologies, who oversees the CCP programs at CCM.
“We’re so pleased that the Community School has the space so people in and around Morristown can take advantage of courses offered by CCM,” said Jennifer Adkins, coordinator of the Community School.
In addition to the ESL classes in Morristown, the college is offering ESL beginner, intermediate and advanced levels courses on its Randolph campus, also starting in early February.
