CCM and Drew University Sign Agreement for Students Who Want to Become Teachers

Dual-Degree Agreement Leads to Both a Bachelor’s and Master’s

County College of Morris (CCM) and Drew University have forged a unique partnership to make it easier for students to enroll in Drew’s BA/MAT teacher certification program.

The dual-degree agreement into a master’s program is believed to be among the first between a community college and a university and offers students not only a seamless pathway to a bachelor’s degree, but also a master’s degree.

The agreement will facilitate the transfer of students from CCM who are interested in earning certification to teach—either at the elementary or secondary level. The partnership enables students who earn an associate degree at CCM to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree at Drew and then apply for a Masters of Arts in teaching.

Generous scholarship opportunities are being made available to CCM students at the undergraduate level. Another advantage to the agreement is that it allows CCM students to take four courses that count toward both the bachelor’s and master’s. The agreement also offers students a 35 percent tuition reduction in the cost of the master’s program.

“We are delighted to enter into this additional agreement with Drew and to provide our students with a continued pathway of excellence to meet their goals,” said Dr. Anthony J. Iacono, president of CCM. “We are particularly proud to partner with Drew to offer our students a seamless opportunity for earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree.”

Along with the teacher certification program, CCM and Drew hold a number of other partnerships. One provides CCM students who take honor classes at the community college with eligibility to take one to two courses at Drew at no cost.

The college and Drew also hold transfer agreements to make it easier for students to apply their credits towards a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, liberal arts humanities and social science, English, history, psychology, fine arts/visual arts or art history.
