Everything from Animation, to Radiography, to Virtual Reality
Deciding what you want to do with your life can feel overwhelming, but County College of Morris (CCM) makes it easy to discover your strengths by offering more than 45 degree programs focused on educational and career success.
The college is now enrolling students for the Spring Semester, which begins January 18.
CCM’s mission is to prepare students for success by providing access to a high-quality education with multiple opportunities for practical, hands-on learning. Included among those opportunities are internships, interdisciplinary classes focused on gaining direct experiences outside the classroom, study abroad and more. CCM’s degree programs, along with its extensive offering of certificates to gain immediate employment, have helped more than 50,000 people to build rewarding careers. As evidence of that success, PayScale has ranked CCM Number One in New Jersey for community college alumni salaries. Additionally, more than 95 percent of graduates – year after year – rate their CCM education as good to excellent.
Here are a few of the majors CCM offers with strong career opportunities.
Animation– One of the college’s newest fields of study, animation engages students in exploring a variety of areas such as gaming, movies, television and video, as they earn an Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) in Animation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of multimedia artists and animators is projected to grow faster than the average for all other occupations. The AFA program at CCM is designed to provide students with a strong background in the process of animation from start to finish with classes in drawing, color theory, multimedia, animation and more.
Cybersecurity– For more than two decades, CCM has been a local and national leader in information security education. In 2017, the college was named a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education, becoming the only community college in New Jersey to earn that designation from the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. CCM offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Information Technology with both a digital forensics and information security track, along with a certificate program in information security. Also offered is an Associate in Science in Criminal Justice with a specialization in computer forensics. Jobs in the field include application security engineers, chief information security officers, and forensics computer and information security analysts. Those working in the field earn good salaries. For example, the median annual salary for cybersecurity professionals is $92,600. The demand also is increasing. It is estimated that there will be a demand for 1 million people in this field over the next several years.
Radiography– Interested in health care and starting a career with an associate degree? Then consider the rapidly expanding world of radiography. Radiologic technologists are the medical personnel who perform diagnostic imaging examinations. There are numerous disciplines and specialties within the radiologic science profession, such as computed tomography, mammography, MRI, medical dosimetry, nuclear medicine, diagnostic medical sonography, cardiovascular-interventional technology, radiation therapy and diagnostic radiography. After earning their AAS in Radiography at CCM, graduates are prepared to take the state licensing exam to enter the field as diagnostic radiographers.
Virtual Reality– The AAS in Virtual Reality is another new program at CCM. As part of the college’s Photography Technology Program, students studying virtual reality learn a range of skills including photography, digital imaging, computer science and narrative storytelling in virtual, augmented and mixed reality. The rigorous program allows students to take advantage of a wide range of opportunities, from immediate entrance into the job market to continuing on to earn a bachelor’s degree. Through the program, students learn to create immersive content and experiences for different industries, including education, employee training, entertainment, health care, the military, social media and so much more.
