Graphic stating Data Science NightThe field of data science continues to expand, offering numerous rewarding, well-paying career options for those with the knowledge and training. Learn about the wide range of opportunities that are available at Data Science Night: Data Under the Stars at County College of Morris (CCM).

The free interactive event will provide an introduction to data science and artificial intelligence, along with an overview of the Data Analytics Certificate Program offered at the college. It is open to students 15 and older and adults interested in exploring career options. No prior experience is needed. The event takes place Thursday, October 13, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in Sheffield Hall Room 200 on CCM’s campus, 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph. Refreshments will be served.

“Data science is an exciting field that helps to answer society’s important questions,” notes Professor Nancy Binowski, Information Technologies.

Professor Kelly Fitzpatrick, Mathematics, who developed CCM’s Data Analytics Certificate Program, adds, “We have put together this program to provide students and adults with an opportunity to learn about this dynamic and rewarding field and the range of career options that are available.”

Participants will hear from CCM Data Analytics faculty, students, the college’s industry and educational partners and take part in hands-on, short interactive workshops on AI-generated artwork, natural language processing, and more.

The schedule of events is:

  • 6:00 – 6:30 p.m., Welcome to Data Science Night, What is Data Science? Job Market and Internship Opportunities
  • 6:40 – 7:15 p.m., Workshops: Concurrent Session I (Choose from AI Artwork, Natural Language Processing and “Illustris,” a Cosmological Simulation)
  • 7:25 – 8 p.m. Industry Presentations and Refreshments
  • 8:10 – 8:40 p.m., Workshops: Concurrent Session II (Choose from AI Artwork, Natural Language Processing and “Illustris,” a Cosmological Simulation)
  • 8:45 – 9:30 p.m., Student Presentations/Q&A and Dessert

The program, sponsored by the Data Analytics Certificate Program and the college’s Women in STEM and Computer Science clubs, is supported with a grant from the National Science Foundation and funding from the New Jersey Council of County Colleges, NJ Pathways Center for Workforce Innovation in Data Science.
