CCM Alumni Awards 2016

  The County College of Morris Foundation, along with the CCM Alumni Association, inaugurated its annual Alumni Awards in 2003. Since then, more than 65 outstanding graduates have been added to the Alumni Hall of Fame. Tonight, we celebrate five more awardees for their achievements. The Alumni Award Recognition Program acknowledges those who meet specific criteria, including personal achievement, dedication to serving the public good, service to a segment of the college, and finally, for exceptional overall achievement in their professions, the Alumnus/a of the Year Award. The Alumni Association Hall of Fame salutes this tenth class of distinguished inductees. Their achievements, service and dedication to their professional lives and to the community make all of us at the County College of Morris proud.   AWARD CRITERIA Alumni Achievement Award Specific, outstanding achievements and/or accomplishments in their profession. Have received honors from associations or employers, or whose work has proven beneficial to a pronounced segment of society. Alumni Service Award Recognition of outstanding service to County College of Morris Alumni Association or some other segment of the College. Alumni Humanitarian Award Dedication to humanitarianism and serving the public good. Unique contribution to society or the community. Lengthy volunteer service to community. Alumnus/a of the Year Award Highest honor given by the Alumni Association that recognizes the exceptional achievements of graduates of the College. Nominees must have shown outstanding performance in their professions, should be recognized as leaders, and should have made outstanding contributions to the community, state, or nation. Our 2017 Alumni Stars The County College of Morris Foundation held the 2017 Scholarship Gala at the Sheraton Parsippany on May 5, 2017. During the evening’s program, four distinguished alumni were inducted into this year’s Alumni Association Hall of Fame for their outstanding professional achievements, humanitarianism or service. Their names will be permanently etched on the corian plates on the Alumni Award Wall prominently displayed in the CCM Student Center.  

ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR Zaher Shabani ’01 brings more than 12 years of cross divisional experience to his role as Manager of Operations in the Manufacturing Division at Merck & Co., Inc. in West Point, Pennsylvania. Over the course of his career at Merck, he has gained hands-on experience in discovery, pre-clinical development, and late stage development of small-molecule solid/liquid dosage forms and manufacturing of viral vaccines. In his current role, Zaher manages the commercial manufacturing of bulk vaccines to achieve financial, productivity, and growth objectives aligned with corporate and divisional milestones. He offers oversight, leadership, and direction to employees in completing process, maintenance, and production of vaccines in compliance with safety and quality standards, meeting cGMP, USP, EU, and other regulatory requirements. In his previous role as a Scientist at Merck Research Laboratories, Zaher delivered technical and decisional knowledge of API phase and formulation characteristics that inform bioperformance risk and strategy to assure robust, scalable formulations and processes to support fit-for-purpose and preliminary market formulation development. While a student at CCM, Zaher received the Carl Vogt Distinguished Leadership Award. He was active in a variety of clubs, including the Ambassador Club. After graduating from CCM with a degree in Chemistry, Zaher earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from Columbia University in New York City. In 2007, Zaher was featured in the CCM “I Started Right” billboard campaign. Over the course of his career, Zaher’s expertise and leadership have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Merck Award for Excellence, the American Chemical Society Leadership Development Award for Younger Chemists, the Schering-Plough Eagle Award for Safety Leadership, and the Schering-Plough Presidential Award for Discovery. He was awarded World Intellectual Property Organization patent # 2008021271 as co-inventor of a PDE-4 inhibitor compound for the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as COPD and asthma. He and his wife, Diana, married in 2009 and have two daughters, Leanna and Jasmine, who are five and two-years-old, respectively. They live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  

ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD George Milonas ’98 is a Director of Corporate Security and Investigations for Avis Budget Group, a leading global rental vehicle and car-sharing company, based in Parsippany, New Jersey. He is responsible for overseeing fraud prevention, investigations, and security risk programs. George was previously a Vice President for JP Morgan Chase, where he worked in the Global Anti-Money Laundering Compliance department. He has extensive experience with leading and managing transnational fraud and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) investigations, leading global compliance programs and initiatives, and implementing policy resulting from the USA Patriot Act, global sanctions and anticorruption regulations. His expertise extends to protecting multi-national companies from complex and diverse AML, fraud and corruption risks. Earlier in his career, George was a municipal police officer in Morris County, NJ and later a Detective with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. During his tenure with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, he served in the Office’s most distinguished investigative divisions, including the Major Crimes and Intelligence Unit. In addition to his leadership roles, for several years, George has been an Adjunct Instructor for Fairleigh Dickinson University, teaching management, leadership. organizational communication and diversity to graduate students in the School of Administrative Science. He received his Associate degree in Criminal Justice from the County College of Morris, his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Centenary College and a Masters of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. George also serves on the County College of Morris Trustee Search Committee.  

ALUMNI HUMANITARIAN AWARD Martin Ebelhardt ’87 currently serves as a Special Agent, Criminal Investigator within the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Office of Inspection and Investigations (Internal Affairs), where he conducts criminal and administrative investigations for the Department of Homeland Security, Minneapolis Resident Office. Martin began his federal law enforcement career in 1989 as a federal police officer in the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division. During his tenure with the Secret Service, he was assigned to the White House and the Administrative Branch and charged with security and policing related functions in and around the White House, and diplomatic foreign missions in the Washington D.C. area. He also served on the Emergency Response Team. In 1996, Martin accepted a position as a Criminal Investigator/Special Agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Washington D.C. and Detroit MI. He also served in a collateral duty capacity, as the tactical training coordinator, and the lead tactics and defensive measures instructor for the Detroit Field Division. While serving with the DEA, Martin conducted numerous complex drug investigations, and discovered a strong interest in teaching. In 2002, Martin joined the newly created Federal Air Marshal Service as a Supervisory Federal Air Marshal charged with organization, development, and oversight of the Minneapolis, Minnesota Field Office’s training and operation sections. He also served as a classroom and practical applications instructor, leading in-service training evolutions in several Air Marshal disciplines. Four years later, Martin was reassigned to another position within the Minneapolis Field Office and charged with responsibility for a squad of Federal Air Marshals and served in a number of additional capacities, ensuring preparedness for all field related emergency operations. In 2008, Martin was promoted to Assistant Supervisory Air Marshal in Charge of the Minneapolis Field Office, a senior field command position. After having served in supervisory and senior command positions for 13 years, in 2015, Martin left the management ranks for his current position. Last year, Martin completed a Master’s Degree in Human Development, with a specialization in Holistic Health and Wellness, at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from National Louis University, in addition to his CCM degree in Criminal Justice. Martin is presently planning for a second career as a teacher and writer, with a special interest in human health and wellness. In addition to plans for a private wellness practice, he hopes to continue to serve the law enforcement community as an educator, and would like to develop a wellness course for law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical personnel.  

ALUMNI SERVICE AWARD RoseAnn Maione ’93, ’94 is the Supervisor of the computer labs at the County College of Morris, a position she has held for 20 years. In this role, RoseAnn works closely with student aides to ensure the Emeriti Hall teaching labs run smoothly and are ready for faculty and student use. She finds the constantly changing computer industry environment to be both stimulating and challenging. For RoseAnn, working with students is an especially rewarding part of her job. She finds it fulfilling to watch students mature, graduate and move on to further their career goals. RoseAnn has served as a member of the Information Technologies Department Advisory Board for the last three years. She also is a member of the College’s Alumni Advisory Board. RoseAnn has played an integral role on the Alumni Board. She has served on the Alumni Scholarship Committee and can be counted on to volunteer at various events. She has been the initiator for a variety of activities and fund-raising programs. Over the course of her tenure at CCM, RoseAnn received the CCM Vice President of Academic Affairs Service award in 1996 and the Academic Administrative Personnel Federation Professional Recognition Award in 2001. In 2006, she completed the CCM Employee Leadership Academy. Her dedication to the college and its students is evident in the many CCM committees on which she has served. RoseAnn earned a Information Technology Computer degree and an AAS degree in Business Career from CCM, along with a Web Development certificate. She is engaged to her longtime partner Len. She enjoys traveling, loves beach vacations, and is an avid reader. Her favorite pastime is spending time with her family, especially her nephews, Frank and Steve, of whom she is extremely proud.
