SEPTEMBER is SUICIDE AWARENESS & PREVENTION MONTH!
The purpose of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is to raise awareness about suicide and to educate the community on mental health issues and suicide prevention and intervention. Awareness of this topic is extremely important as suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students, while 39% of students in college experience a significant mental health issue (https://www.activeminds.org/about-mental-health/statistics/). Issues surrounding suicide affects people of all genders, demographics, backgrounds and ages, and education, and awareness creates an overall stronger culture of respect and understanding. To mark this month, CCM’s Counseling & Student Success office is here to provide educational & learning experiences, personal counseling, support, and resources to any students in need.
