Dr. Stoler teaches Introductory Chemistry and General Chemistry I and II. She discovered her love for chemistry while taking chemistry her junior year of high school because her teacher’s enthusiasm for the subject was contagious. Many people are not so lucky and decide that they do not like chemistry. This feeling is conveyed by many of her students on the first day of class. One of her goals as a professor is to change that attitude and to encourage her students to develop a love for and appreciation of chemistry.

Dr. Stoler illustrates the role of chemistry in everyday life by using examples such as breathing, digesting food, the operation of a car, and medications. She points out to her students that solving chemistry problems can feel very intimidating and helps them to learn strategies to eliminate the “intimidation factor” and to foster an understanding of the subject. Students are encouraged to ask her questions both inside and outside the classroom and to reach out to her if they have difficulty with course material or need encouragement. She is a co-advisor for PALS (The Pet and Animal Lovers Society) at CCM. The club has sponsored field trips including going to the Philadelphia Zoo and the Adventure Aquarium. A major activity of the club is making cat and dog toys and cat beds to donate to animal shelters.

Dr. Stoler’s enjoys going to botanical gardens and zoos, reading, spending time with her husband and her two cats.
