Providing Aspiring Artists with an Audience for Their Work
Pastel landscape by Kea Gerike of Summit now on exhibit in Assemblywoman Aura Dunn’s Chester office.
Assemblywoman Aura Dunn is displaying the artwork of six County College of Morris (CCM) students in her Chester office, continuing a tradition of providing CCM aspiring artists with the opportunity to exhibit their work publicly.
The student exhibit was first arranged by Professor of Fine Arts Todd Doney when State Senator Anthony J. Bucco held the seat Dunn now holds. Students from Doney’s Drawing II class who are currently exhibiting their work are Gabriella Alvarez of Budd Lake, Michael Crean of Caldwell, Kea Gerike of Summit, Meghan Hokr of Pompton Plains, Catherine James of Wharton and Kelly Xiang of Pine Brook.
Dunn is continuing the longstanding tradition Bucco initiated with CCM in 2013 to highlight the work of outstanding students. He reached out to the Department of Art and Design asking if students could create scenes of Morris County, the county that he represents then as assemblyman and now as state senator. Doney took on the assignment by asking his Drawing II students to create pastel landscapes representing scenes from Morris County.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain experience at exhibiting their work. It’s also a wonderful chance for the community to view the high-quality work produced by CCM students and perhaps purchase a painting of a local setting if they wish,” says Doney.
The exhibit will run through December 1. Dunn’s office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The address is 191 Main Street, Suite D, in Chester.
