Associate in Applied Science
Respiratory therapists assist physicians in diagnosing breathing disorders, assessing patients and recommending changes in the therapeutic approach to patient care. In addition to delivering treatment and bedside care, respiratory therapists draw and analyze arterial blood, manage artificial airways and life support devices such as mechanical ventilators. They also provide patient and family education at the bedside and in home care, smoking cessation, asthma education and pulmonary rehabilitation. Respiratory therapists may specialize in Neonatal-Pediatric Respiratory Care, Pulmonary Function Testing, Sleep Technology, and Asthma Education and earn credentials in these areas.
The Program prepares CCM students to earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Respiratory Therapy and to directly enter the workforce.
Full time and adjunct faculty have diverse educational and professional backgrounds and the faculty to student ratio at CCM is very low in the classroom, laboratory and clinical setting. Students have access to a technologically advanced education. The Respiratory Therapy Laboratory is state-of-the-art and equipped with ventilators, intubation devices, spirometers, and arterial blood gas monitors. Realistic clinical simulation is done using high fidelity mannequins that are linked to computer software, allowing students to be well-prepared for the workplace.
Health care facilities such as Atlantic Health Systems, Robert Wood Johnson and Wanaque Center support clinical learning in a variety of settings including emergency and critical care and long-term care.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics employment of Respiratory Therapists is projected to grow 23 percent from 2020 to 2030 with about 10,100 openings each year. The median annual wage was $61,830 in 2021.

CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an â€˜outcomes basedâ€™ process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the educational goals of the program are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented. Professional Licensure Disclosure
Graduates of the County College of Morris Respiratory Therapy Program are eligible to apply for Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in New Jersey. Licensure as a respiratory care practitioner in the state of NJ requires successful completion of an examination. The respiratory care examination is the Registered Respiratory Therapist examination offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or its successor organization. 1) Applications for examination are obtained from the National Board for Respiratory Care (www.nbrc.org). Examinations are taken at such times and places designated by the National Board for Respiratory Care. The passing score required for licensure shall be the passing score identified by the National Board for Respiratory Care for the Registered Respiratory Therapist Examination.

There are many employment opportunities for graduates after receiving a Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential. RRTs can follow a several career ladders including certifications in specialized areas as well as Bachelorâ€™s or Masterâ€™s degrees. Such degrees may lead to employment in management, administration, teaching and research. Some RRTs establish their own respiratory home care companies which provide equipment and clinical services. Others have started business in services such as patient care education and respiratory diagnostic services.
