The spring semester is now underway – and you know what that means: major confusion! Where are my classes? What books do I need? Is this course the correct prerequisite for my coursework? Where will I be going during spring break? So, what’s a typical day like at CCM during this very hectic time?
In the morning, after you fight traffic on Route 10 and find a parking spot (in Lot #6 by the Student Center, if you’re really lucky; Lot #1 if you’re not – and then you have to climb ‘Cardiac Hill’ in blustery, cold wind) you start your day with a steaming hot cup of coffee with your classmates at the SCC Cafe. After enjoying your beverage while discussing your plans for the upcoming semester, you head out the door of the Student Center, making your way across campus, past the library to the lower level of Sheffield Hall, to your Chemistry class.
After the intense chem lab, you stop by the Cohen Cafe’ for a quick pick-me-up snack (and another cup of coffee too, while you’re at it). Then, it’s on to your next task – Sociology class – in DeMare Hall.
Your first two classes being over, you take a break in the Student Center’s popular TV Lounge, playing a game of Madden 16, in preparation for the upcoming video tournament. Then it’s off to your next two classes: Journalism and Criminal Justice, after which you have an appointment with your Music professor (in the just opened Musical Technology Center, CCM’s newest building and it is awesome!) during her office hour to discuss your somewhat unexpected grade on last semester’s final project.
You’re almost finished for the day, but not before you have a rehearsal for the upcoming CCM performing arts musical comedy “The Pajama Game” with your fellow performers in the Dragonetti Auditorium. After the rehearsal, you head off – once again – to the library. There you settle down for some serious studying, as you want to maintain your 3.5 GPA so that you can get inducted this semester into Phi Theta Kappa, CCM’s honor society.
That’s a pretty full day by all accounts, but you see, at CCM we encourage you to maximize your college experience. Life at the County College of Morris can be exhilarating. You’ll hear a lot of laughter and great conversation, all across campus. CCM students enjoy belonging to one (or more) of our student clubs, or going to concerts and CCM Titan athletic contests, or playing intramurals with friends, or just hanging out with classmates in the Student Center.
Going to class is just part (albeit the most important part) of what going to college is all about. College is the time for you to meet new people and make new friends, to explore your interests, and to have a lot of different experiences. At CCM you have endless opportunities to do what interests you. So, get involved – get the most out your college experience. Like most other CCM students, you’ll be glad you did.
