Celebrating a Legacy: CCM Gallery Showcases Joe Kubert and 50 Years of The Joe Kubert School
Art Exhibit Honors the Influential Artist, Teacher and Generations of Creators He Inspired
County College of Morris (CCM) invites the community to celebrate five decades of education and the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary artist and educator Joe Kubert with a special exhibit, “The Legacy of Joe Kubert and 50 Years of The Joe Kubert School,” on view now through November 5 in CCM’s Gallery.
An opening reception celebrating the exhibition will be held on Thursday, October 1, from 6 – 8 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
The Joe Kubert School, a premier institution of its kind, founded in 1976 by Joe Kubert, has nurtured and honed the talents of countless aspiring cartoonists, illustrators and visual storytellers. The exhibit features Kubert’s extraordinary influence on the comics and illustration industries and highlights the generations of artists and storytellers who have carried his lessons, passion and commitment to the art form into their own careers. Visitors will have an opportunity to explore the legacy of an artist who not only left an indelible mark on comics and sequential art but also dedicated his life to teaching and mentoring emerging creators.
“The school has spent 50 years helping artists explore their creative potential, with the iconic Cartoon Graphics program having helped launch the careers of generations of students,” said Anthony Marques, director of The Joe Kubert School at CCM. “As an alumnus, it is incredibly meaningful to lead that legacy forward, while celebrating an exciting new chapter at CCM.”
The Joe Kubert School was acquired by County College of Morris in Fall 2026. The integration brings the school’s renowned legacy and industry connections to CCM, while expanding opportunities for students pursuing careers in comics, illustration, animation and graphic storytelling. Through relationships that include such names as DC Comics, Marvel Comics, IDW Publishing and Dynamite Entertainment, students can gain direct access to working professionals and valuable career insights. Alumni have been employed with some of the world’s most recognized creative companies, including Walt Disney Animation, Warner Bros. and Pixar Animation Studios.
