Required Community Service and Opportunities
Students are expected to provide 8 hours of community service per semester for the benefit of others.
Opportunities are provided both on and off-campus to volunteer using one’s interests and skills to benefit others, as well as to gain hands-on experience in an area that may be in line with one’s academic major leading to a career.
The chance to get the exposure and hands-on experience prior to gainful employment in a position gives the student the chance to build one’s self-esteem and, in the process, gets an inside view of what the work environment and responsibilities of the job may actually be.
Mission Statement
The Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) at County College of Morris provides a gateway to higher education for students who need academic and financial support.
EOF is committed to transform incoming students into scholars. This is achieved by offering holistic support services, which are designed to develop persistence as well as to increase retention and graduation rates.
Ultimately, our goal is for students to continue their post-secondary education and/or to become successful professionals in a diverse society.
History
EOF was established in 1968 by the New Jersey State Legislature and the efforts of Freshman Assemblyman, Thomas Kean, and began at the County College of Morris in 1969. Since its inception, the EOF program has grown to serve over 40,000 students, with approximately 13,000 served annually.
The program provides comprehensive services designed to foster persistence to graduation, academic achievement and personal and leadership development opportunities. In addition, it performs a pipeline function to facilitate the pursuit of educational goals at a four-year institution, career goals in the workplace, cultural awareness and citizenship responsibility as future leaders in the community and in the global society.
