While you are encourage to take as many courses as you like, you may find that your courses are meeting specific requirements toward a certificate or degree at CCM. This might be especially the case if you are attending CCM as a visiting student from another college/university. You will save time and money by first finishing your two-year degree at CCM, and then transferring to a four-year institution upon completion.
Taking the time to speak to your Student Success Specialist may help to clarify the steps needed to declare a program of study and earn a CCM certificate or degree and help you to realize your educational goals—whether they are to continue on as a life-long learner, improve upon your skills, be more marketable in the workforce, or to take the steps needed to enroll in a degree or certificate program.
Registration for the spring and fall semesters begins in early November and April, respectively, you can start planning for your next term NOW by connecting with your Student Success Specialist. If you need assistance contact The Academic Success Center – TASC – at 973 328 5530 or email tasc@ccm.edu.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)
What Does It Mean To Be Non-Matriculated or Matriculated?
If you are just taking classes and not pursuing a degree at CCM, you are considered a non-matriculated student. If you are enrolled in a degree or certificate program at CCM, you are considered a matriculated student.
What Should I Do If I Am Unsure Of What Major to Pick?
CCM does not offer an undeclared program of study. If your interests are more general, you may want to choose the Humanities and Social Sciences/Liberal Arts major. If you have an interest in Mathematics, Science or Business, there are specific degrees in those fields as well. A counselor in the Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) can help you find an educational path that might be best suited for your abilities as they relate to your interests. Click here for more information about selecting a major.
How Do I Find Out Who My Advisor Is?
All first year degree/certificate seeking students are assigned to Student Success Specialists in The Academic Success Center. Once the semester begins first year students will also be assigned to a faculty advisor/s within their program of study. Second year students are assigned only to faculty advisor/s. Advisor assignments are posted on each student’s Titan’s Direct/Student Planning account. What If I Don’t Like My Advisor?
In most cases, students are assigned to a group of faculty advisors. This gives students the option of working with one or more advisors each semester. It also allows students to meet with different advisors before each registration session. If students are assigned to work with only one individual advisor, and the connection is uncomfortable, speak to the Department Chairperson or School Dean for suggestions.
When Should I See My Academic Advisor?
Students should connect with their advisors each semester before they register and any other time during the school year for questions, concerns or comments related to the college experience. Students may call, email or schedule a virtual visit with their advisor during office hours. Students are encouraged to be proactive and make the effort to communicate with their advisors on a regular basis. Using the ‘Advising’ tab on Student Planning/Titan’s Direct, students can regularly communicate with their assigned advisors.
What Is A Curriculum Checksheet?
A curriculum checksheet is a document containing all the courses that are required to complete a degree or certificate at CCM. CCM offers more than 75 majors – all of which have their own specially designated curriculum check sheet. Each year, curriculum check sheets are revised, therefore it is important students follow the check sheet of the year they first began at CCM. Locate your Curriculum Checksheet here.
The ‘Progress’ tab on Student Planning/Titan’s Direct allows students to select all the correct courses that correspond with their specific check sheets.
Who Is My Advisor If I Do Not Have a Major?
Students first need to check the ‘Progress’ tab on Titan’s Direct/Student Planning to view their assigned major. In many cases, students think they do not have a specified major when in reality they do. Students who are non-matriculating (non-degree seeking) are assigned to work with a Student Success Specialist in The Academic Success Center.
How Do I Change My Major?
Matriculated (degree/certificate-seeking) students, changing from one major to another, should fill out a Change of Major Form.
Non-matriculated (not seeking a degree/certificate) students interested in declaring a major (pursuing a degree), should complete a ‘request to matriculate’ form.
These forms are available on the Office of Records and Registration portion of the website under the downloadable forms area. After you complete the form, return it to registrar@ccm.edu for processing or drop it off at the Records and Registration office, SCC 220.
