CCM’s Internship Program combines academic studies with experiential learning opportunities, enabling students to apply theories and skills learned in the classroom to real world situations. Along with gaining experience in your field, you can fine-tune skills like time management, communication, working with others and problem-solving, all of which will ease your transition between school and work.
Not only will an internship give you a competitive edge in the job market, there are a host of other tangible benefits, as well:
* Evaluate your career choices
* Test-drive knowledge and skills
* Acquire new skills
* Develop and demonstrate career readiness
* Strengthen your resume
* Build confidence and learn more about yourself
* A ‘foot in the door’ at your internship company
* Develop a network and reference opportunities
* Gain a “real world” perspective on an occupation’s work environment
Three Ways to Intern
An internship can be:
Credit-bearing
This option provides academic credit toward your CCM degree. Credit internships can carry one, two, or three credits, based on a student’s needs, major, and desired work hours. In addition to gaining hands-on professional experience and building career-ready skills, students receive guidance and support from both the Career Services office and an academic faculty advisor throughout the experience.
Non-credit with Transcript Notation
This option provides the same valuable professional experience but offers greater flexibility with fewer eligibility requirements. Although no course registration is involved, participants receive a notation on their transcript recognizing their internship experience. Students also benefit from Career Services office support, including assistance with internship planning and successful participation.
Non-credit without Transcript Notation
This option provides the same valuable professional experience but offers greater flexibility with fewer eligibility requirements. Although no course registration is involved, participants receive a notation on their transcript recognizing their internship experience. Students also benefit from Career Services office support, including assistance with internship planning and successful participation.
A credit-bearing internship is an academic course that can count toward your degree in many CCM majors!

Eligibility
- Be a current student at CCM in a major offering internship credit,
- have a minimum 2.0 GPA, and
- have completed approximately 24 credits in your major.
How to Apply
- Complete a Credit Internship Application. Pick one up in Career Services, download it from the list below, or find it in your Blackboard account under Internship Experience (Career Cluster/Major section). If you do not see your major, please check with Career Services or your academic advisor. A credit internship option may still be available to you.
- Career Services will identify your faculty internship advisor from whom you will secure approval to participate. If you already have a job you wish to use for your internship, you can also request faculty approval of the job at this time by providing a job description. The job description must ultimately be confirmed by your employer.
- Return your completed and approved forms to Career Services, SCC, room 118 (career-services@ccm.edu). You may register for your internship section once you have received a job offer and all application paperwork has been submitted.
Note: Your work experience must be concurrent with the semester in which you are registered for internship credit.
A non-credit internship is a work experience related to your major that offers greater flexibility, and requires no course registration (it’s tuition-free)!
You have the option to have the internship recorded on your official transcript with an internship notation.
However, unlike a credit-bearing internship, it is not part of your academic curriculum.
If a credit-bearing internship isn’t the right fit for you, perhaps because your major doesn’t offer internship credit or you’ve chosen other courses instead, a non-credit internship is an excellent alternative.
Eligibility with a transcript notation:
- Have completed a minimum of 12 credits in your major,
- be currently enrolled in at least 3 credits,
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and
- be able to work a minimum of 40 hours over a semester.
Eligibility without a transcript notation:
- You must be a currently enrolled, matriculated student.
How to Apply:
Visit an Internship Coordinator in Career Services to discuss your interests and explore your options. If you currently hold a position that you believe could be developed into a qualifying internship, discuss this with your Internship Coordinator as well.
