CCM Launches New Theatre Technology Associate Degree
Preparing Students for Careers in Live Entertainment, Performing Arts and Production
As demand grows for skilled professionals in live entertainment, event production and performing arts, County College of Morris (CCM) is launching a new Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Theatre Technology. Enrollment is now open for the Fall 2026 semester.
This exciting new program prepares students for careers in theatre, concerts, television, corporate events and other live productions, where trained technicians are essential to bringing performances to life. Students receive hands-on instruction in lighting, sound, stage operations, electronics, scenic design and music recording while building a strong academic foundation in the humanities.
What sets CCM’s program apart is the internship program where students apply their skills in real-world settings. Throughout the two-year program, students work alongside faculty and production staff supporting the many performances presented by the Marielaine Mammon School of Music, Performing Arts & Music Technologies in the college’s state-of-the-art performance venues. Students also complete coursework in History of Theatre and Appreciation of Musical Theatre, gaining an understanding of both the artistic and technical aspects of live performance.
“Our new Theatre Technology program is ideal for students who want to be part of the creative engine that brings performances to life, including those produced for the public each semester in our 434-seat Dragonetti Auditorium and the more intimate Black Box Theater,” said Professor Marielaine Mammon, Chairperson of the Marielaine Mammon School of Music, Performing Arts & Music Technologies. “With access to some of the most advanced learning environments available at a community college and being taught by faculty who bring years of real-world experience in voice, theatre and dance, our students can gain the confidence and skills needed to thrive upon graduation.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of broadcast, sound and video technicians is projected to grow over the next decade as demand continues for live events and digital productions.
CCM graduates who seek to continue their studies may benefit from New Jersey’s Statewide Transfer Agreement, allowing them to seamlessly transfer general education credits earned at CCM to public four-year colleges and universities across the state. Support from the college’s Office of Career & Transfer Services provides guidance on the process, in addition to resume writing and career planning if they choose to build upon their required internship and enter the workforce. With the college’s location in Morris County, and easy access by car, bus or rail to other metropolitan cities and nearby New York City, the possibilities for success in theatre technology are endless.

Most recently, CCM was ranked first in New Jersey by Smart Asset in its 2025 study of community colleges.
