CCM to Host Data Science Night on November 13
A Free and Interactive Evening for Students, Adult Learners and Working Professionals
RANDOLPH, NJ: County College of Morris (CCM) invites the community to its annual “Data Science Night: Data Under the Stars,” on Thursday, November 13, from 6 to 9 p.m., with check-in starting at 5:30 p.m. This free event is open to individuals ages 15 and above, including students, adult learners and working professionals, to gain a hands-on introduction to the dynamic and rapidly growing field of data science.
Attendees may participate in interactive workshops covering topics such as data visualization, natural language processing, and more. The evening also includes an opportunity to visit CCM’s Longo Planetarium to explore a universe of data under the stars.
Data science is one of today’s fastest-growing and in-demand fields. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of data scientists is projected to grow 34% from 2024 to 2034, faster than average. The median annual wage in the U.S. is $112,590, with strong opportunities across various industries including healthcare, finance, technology and government.
“Through data science we can answer questions and solve societal challenges,” said Professor Nancy E. Binowski, Department of Information Technologies at CCM. “With AI now poised to impact many aspects of our daily lives, it is timely and imperative that we learn how to use data science and AI ethically to make positive impacts in society.”
Enrollment is open for students to apply to earn a for-college credit Certificate of Achievement in Data Analytics. This five-course program can be completed on campus or 100% online through CCM’s Virtual Campus. Credits earned may also be used towards completion of an Associate of Science degree in Data Science from CCM. Representatives from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rowan University and Rutgers University will be at the event to answer questions and review transfer options for CCM graduates who are interested in continuing their education towards a bachelor’s degree.
CCM’s Center for Workforce Development (WFD) team will also be available to discuss the college’s non-credit certificate in Data Analytics and Visualization, a valuable credential for those seeking to work in the data science field or to boost their current career. WFD offers a multitude of training options, including courses in Business Analytics with Excel, Microsoft Power BI, SQL for Data Management, Introduction to R Programming and Tableau, in addition to an IT Bootcamp to help kickstart a new career!
Join CCM for an exciting evening. No prior experience in data science is needed to participate, but pre-registration is required. To register, visit https://www.ccm.edu/events/data-science-night-2/.
