Dr. Jabou McCoy joined the County College of Morris (CCM) in 2017 and previously taught sociology at UC Davis and California State University, Sacramento. McCoy currently teaches Principles of Sociology and Cultural Diversity in America: The Sociology of Ethnic and Minority Groups in person and online in CCM’s Virtual Campus. As someone whose primary interest is learning and teaching about how racism operates in society, McCoy often tells his students to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” He believes that college students have the desire and capacity to address societal issues. Being upfront with students about issues encourages them to interrogate how they can produce change.

Using a holistic approach to student success, McCoy makes lectures relevant to students by connecting course material to current events, employs a flexible assignment submission policy to help students balance responsibilities inside and outside of school, and forgoes the use of expensive textbooks to save students money.
